Deck Spindles from S&L are available in Pressure Treated Southern Yellow Pine or Western Red Cedar. Our Deck Spindles are available in 2x2, 2x3, 3x3, 4x4. Deck Spindle Spacing: The general code rule is you should not be able to get a 4" ball in between the spaces of the spindles. Some of the spindles shown here could be spaced 3" apart, and others could be 3 3/4". It depends on how deep the turning goes into the wood. Spindles for sale can be confusing. Ideally you want spindles for sale that are "machine after treated." These spindles are kiln dried after treatment so there are no splits from the drying. The color of these spindles are nicer and much more uniform-no lines or streaks. Wooden porch posts, stair spindles, wood spindles and railing spindles are always more durable and better looking than the cheap imports.
What does “Machine After Treated Mean”?
S&L Spindles “Machine After Treated” option means less cracking and a better appearance, giving the spindle and your whole project a better first impression.

Look closely at the Machine After Treated Spindle above– no treatment oozing out after painting,, no unsightly streaks down the side, the texture matches the rest of your structure, less splitting and cracks out in the sun means a better yield.
A month ago, these guys approached us with their new turned and machine after treated spindle. We were all over the this idea as soon as we saw the product- such a difference! We now use their machine after treated spindle on every single gazebo. I can't imagine why anyone would not use this new type of spindle. Aside from the looks, we continue to be blown away by how strong they are. So thanks guys-not only for this new spindle, but for the way you do business in general. In those rare cases when there was a problem with something, you stood behind your "Reject Free Guarantee" and made it right - fast! You are the guys that really will stand behind their product, before during and after the sale!

Always Better than Big Box Stores
By specializing in just deck parts, we always have more sizes, styles, turning designs and lengths you need.
And they are always in stock. never any special ordering or waiting weeks for your spindles to come in.
We use only SOLID WOOD for our spindles and railing. Benefits over glue-laminated, finger-jointed wood offered by other companies include:
- Solid wood has a single piece grain structure for a better feel and look.
- Solid wood components contain more heartwood (highest quality part of the log), whereas laminated pieces often have more sapwood (lower quality wood).
- Our products start as one solid piece and stay that way. Laminated products run the risk of DE-laminating.
- Solid wood can be stained and will look very attractive. Because of the inconsistent grain structure of laminated stock, staining often creates an eyesore.
- Solid wood simply holds up better to decades of weather than laminated pieces.
